Black and white is a classic kitchen combination but arranging the splashback tiles in an unconventional layout instantly gives it a modern edge.  I considered doing this herringbone pattern in my kitchen but I think my builder would have thought I was nuts (he had his suspicions!) so I spared him this torturous process.  It does look rather snazzy though!
