HOW TO GET WHAT YOU WANT - THE SECRET TO MANIFESTING (PART I)
“Once you make a decision, the Universe conspires to make it happen.”
It started with an earring. A few months ago, around the time of full moon, I noticed that I’d lost one. Although not hugely expensive, it was a one of a pair that I had been gifted for my birthday so I was a tad miffed. However, instead of dwelling on it I chose to trust that it was not gone, simply misplaced, and that I would find it somewhere, at some point. I let it go.
The week after the full moon began with a low vibe. The air was thick with negative energy and I was plagued with self-doubt. Even though I knew I was working hard to grow my brand, I felt like I wasn’t doing enough. I wasn’t having any joy with the pitches I’d been sending out and sales were harder to come by than a bottle of Evian in the Sahara. However, I’ve read enough books and watched enough videos on manifesting by now to know that I had to avoid getting sucked in to the spiral of doom. I had to stop trying to control every outcome and surrender to the universe. In other words, I had to let it all go.
“When we operate from a place of fear and scarcity we are sending out the message that we don’t believe we are worthy”
Successful manifesting really comes down to a couple of things: Living with an abundance mindset and detaching from the outcome. When we operate from a place of fear and scarcity we are sending out the message that we don’t believe we are worthy and that we must hold on to everything tightly. We think that someone else’s gain and good fortune automatically means we lose out. Our hearts are closed. In the same way, trying to force an outcome and chasing what we want shows we are in a lack mindset, which reinforces to the universe the message that we don’t have it. When we learn to ‘set it and forget it’ we are choosing to trust in divine timing.
By living with an abundance mindset - that is, believing there is enough to go around - we can see opportunities instead of limitations and open ourselves up to receive. I meditated on this for some time and, as an affirmation to myself, I posted a story to my Instagram with the caption ‘let go to let in’ and I repeated my freelancer mantra - “something always turns up” - over in my mind.
I felt the need to do something radical, however, so…I impulsively went and got a tattoo. On the way back from buying cat food I called in to the tattooist on the off chance that they could do it there and then. An hour later I had the words ‘shift happens’ (with a lightning bolt as the ‘i’) permanently inked on to my ribs. I instantly felt a change in my energy.
In my flurry of excitement to get home and share my moment of madness with my nearest and dearest I realised I had lost the £10 note the girl had given me as change. I looked around my car and even walked back up the road to see if I’d dropped it on my way out. It was nowhere to be found so I conceded and drove home. Here’s where my practice of maintaining an abundant mindset came in to its own. I decided that instead of getting annoyed with myself at being so careless I would just let it go. I visualised the surprise on someone’s face as they just happened to find a ten pound note on the pavement and how they would think it was their lucky day. Or, the girls in the tattooists laughing at their good fortune and buying a bottle of wine to share between them. Rather than feeling as though I’d lost something I chose to see it as a gift to a random stranger. That made me happy.
The next day I was out on my morning run and I stopped at a favourite spot in the woods to do some pushups. During my 30-second breather between sets I wandered around and on the ground at the base of a fallen tree a glint of silver caught my eye. I looked closer. It was an earring. It couldn’t be, could it?
In disbelief, I picked it up. Well, no, actually it wasn’t mine but it was pretty damn close. The universe had sent me a substitute! I chuckled at how silly it seemed and finished my workout. I was still smiling to myself at the chance of finding such a similar piece of jewellery as I unfurled my yoga mat back at home. When I crouched down to get in to my head stand, I saw it. There on the floor was MY earring!
It had been there all along - not gone, simply misplaced as I had chosen to believe. But that’s not the end of this story. This seemingly coincidental event kickstarted a chain of even more serendipitous happenings over the next few days which has totally convinced me that letting go really is the key to successful manifesting.
