JESSICA ZOOB STUDIO VISIT
Last weekend, on what was perhaps one of the last days of summer, I took a drive down to East Sussex to visit the studio of one of my favourite artists, Jessica Zoob. I have admired, and been inspired by, her art for many years and to be able to see a huge selection of works in the flesh and meet the lady herself was an opportunity too good to miss.
After an hour and a half’s pleasant drive in the sunshine, through picturesque villages and the Ashdown Forest, I arrived at Banff Farm where Jessica has her very own custom-built studio.
The view from outside Jessica’s studio.
The setting is truly inspirational and inside the whitewashed walls and skylights make it a perfect environment for creativity. The gin and tonic was free flowing and the vast amount of work on show made it difficult to know where to look first!
The main aim of the show was to showcase the latest collection ‘Inspired By Asia’ - a series of smaller works made during Jessica’s time at her new Hong Kong studio - however, I was just as keen to get a glimpse of some of her older pieces. To see the work in real life really gave me a buzz and a greater understanding of the techniques involved. It was a hugely inspirational few hours and has given me real confidence to take my own work forward, not to mention the kind of studio space I can aspire to!
Dreams really can come true.
